Set environment values
Updated November 5, 2026 · Applies to Platform ONE 1.45
Some things a workflow does should differ in each of your environments. In development, a workflow
should call your CRM's test system; in production, the real one. Environment values hold these
differences. A workflow uses a value by its name, such as {env.crm-address}, and each environment
has its own value for that name.
When you move a release to another environment, it carries the name of the value, never the value itself. So a workflow promoted to production calls production's address, without anyone editing it.
Prerequisites
- The Admin role.
Add a value
-
In the menu, under Administration, select Environment values.
-
Under Add a value, enter:
Field Description Name Lowercase letters, digits and dashes, starting with a letter, such as crm-address. Workflows write it as{env.crm-address}.Value in this environment What the name stands for here, such as https://crm.example.com/hooks/platformoneor[email protected]. -
Select Add value.
Then add the same name, with that environment's own value, in each of your other environments.
Use a value in a workflow
In the workflow designer, this environment's values are offered alongside the other placeholders. You can use one in:
- The address that Call an address calls.
- The sign-in address of the One person a notification goes to.
- The To, subject and text of an email, the text of a notification, and the new value of a field.
See Automate work with workflows.
When a value is missing
A workflow that uses a value not set in an environment can't be submitted for review there. The checks before review name the value. When a release arrives from another environment with such a workflow, it waits as drafts, and the Environment values page lists the values it needs, with the workflows that use them. Select Set next to each one, enter this environment's value, and then select Submit release for review on the release's page.
Change or remove a value
- To change one, select Change, enter the new value, and then select Save value. Workflows use it from their next run.
- To remove one, select Remove. A value that a workflow uses, live or in a change in progress, can't be removed or renamed: change those workflows first.
